How To Refurnish Your Living Room In 5 Ways

It is the first point of entry into your home, and you are less than happy with your living room design. This year, you wish to have a classier living room – and here’s some remodel help on decorating your living room in 5 ways:

#1 Get carpet(s) to demarcate different areas.

There are different areas of use in the living room. There is a seating area, a walking space (short routes leading to passages, other rooms), a reading or study corner, and so on. Each area has its own activity patterns. You cannot have physical demarcations like partitions or walls for these zones, but you can have visual demarcations in the form of carpets. We suggest installing a thick shag carpet in the seating area, to demarcate the couch, centre table and side tables. You can even have a small carpet under your rocking chair in the corner.

#2 Change the curtains.

Curtains bring cheer to the room. If your living room receives a lot of natural light, you can get thick, plain curtains to cut some of the glare during the day. Or you can get sheer curtains in different patterns, like floral or geometric, to liven up the window space. You can get matching window curtains and also a door curtain to demarcate the living area from the adjoining passage.

#3 Get new wall art.

Art on your walls makes your living room appear elegant and classy. It also makes you look like an art connoisseur – and you may not even be one! You can experiment with different kinds of art prints and panels, depending on the wall you wish to highlight. A rule of thumb is to choose a wall that does not have any mounted furniture (flat screen TV or wall mounted cabinet, for example) and which is large enough for the wall art to be properly displayed.

#4 Change the lights.

Light can ‘craft’ spaces out of illumination and shadows. You need not have a large central light source in the living area. Try this: have three or four small pendant lights above the main seating area, while having minimal lighting over the others. Fairy lights, pedestal lamps and spot lights are good options for the living room. Different lights when switched on will create their own spaces, making the room appear cosy and posh.

#5 Paint the walls.

The colour of your living room walls goes a long way in creating an illusion of space. Light, pastel shades that reflect light will make the space appear larger than it is. Choose light shades like lemon yellow, bone green, off white, light grey or sky blue so that natural light bounces off the walls. Leave dark colours for columns or smaller walls that you wish to highlight.

Living room redesign is a matter of balance and aesthetics. We hope these ideas help spur your creative juices to design the most beautiful living room you’ve ever seen!
